3D Desktop: Set up Compiz Fusion and The Proprietary 3D Driver

how I set it up:

set to 8x anti aliasing und 4x anisotropic to test the new settings:

nvidia-settings -load-config-only > /dev/null 2>&1 && compiz --replace &

tool for ati graphic cards: fglrx-control

sudo aptitude install fglrx-control

preferred settings for Compiz-Fusion

  • Desktop Cube
  • opacity during rotation: 15 %
  • opacity when not rotating: 60 %
  • Enhanced Zoom Plugin / Desktop: disabled
  • Rotate Desktop Cube:
  • snap to top face: enabled
  • snap to bottom face: enabled
  • flip time: 190 ms
  • pointer sensitivity: 1.8
  • Expo:
  • Immediate Moves: Enabled
  • Scale : Enabled (= Exposé on Mac)
  • 3D windows:
  • window space: 4
  • animation speed: 0.4
  • window color active: 160,55,55 (weinrot)
  • window color inactive: 190,190,190 (grau)
  • Animations:
  • close animation: menu, popupmenu... : fade, 100ms
  • tooltip, notification... : fade 100ms
  • other windows: sidekick, 500ms
  • focus animation: normal, dialog... : 75ms
  • open animation: normal windows, menus, tooltips: resp. 100ms, 50ms, 50ms
  • cube caps: enabled
  • move window: opacity: 80 %
  • shift switcher
  • shift speed: 1.5
  • click duration: 200
  • font: size:20, bold
  • ring switcher: enabled

make nvidia-settings load your settings at startup

Add the following entry to ~/.bash_profile ( http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Bash/bashrc )
