Burning Tools For Linux


The most important graphical buring tools on Linux are:

  • K3b
  • Brasero
  • gnomebaker

burn *.iso to CD: (wodim is a fork of cdrecord)

wodim --devices

to check the available burners and choose the right device

wodim dev=/dev/scd0 driveropts=burnfree -v -data ubuntu-9.04-desktop-amd64_.iso

to blank a CD-RW:

wodim -vv dev=/dev/scd0 blank=all

Burning a DVD or Blu-Ray Disc

sudo aptitude install dvd+rw-tools

Use the packages growisofs application to burn a DVD or Blu-Ray disc:

growisofs -Z /dev/dvdrw -R -J /some/files

growisofs -speed=2 -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvdrw=dvd_image.iso

Note that -dvd-compat closes the disk in write-once context (DVD+R or DVD-R).

Add additional sessions by using

growisofs -M /dev/dvdwriter additionaldata

Blanking DVD+RW discs

dvd+rw-format -blank /dev/cdrw

audio cd creation (gui and cli)

Use the Serpentine Audio-CD Creator or create .wav files and burn them like this

cdrecord dev=/dev/sr0 \*.wav
