Update the Java alternatives so Suns virtual machines is the default:-

NetBeans Python support

http://wiki.netbeans.org/Python
http://wiki.netbeans.org/PythonInstall

  1. Download and install the nightly build of NetBeans
  2. get Python IDE build from the continuous build: http://deadlock.netbeans.org/hudson/job/python/
  3. Copy the python1 directory from the unzipped Python IDE build to the NetBeans IDE build, and use the main NetBeans build.

So the steps in my terminal are:

cd ~/Downloads
wget http://deadlock.netbeans.org/hudson/job/python/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/nbbuild/NetBeans-dev-python-2776-on-091009-python.zip
unzip NetBeans-dev-python-2776-on-091009-python.zip
cd netbeans
sudo cp -R python1 /usr/local/netbeans-dev-200910071536
