Octave on Mac OS X

You can either download a *.dmg from http://octave.sourceforge.net/.

Or you can also install it via homebrew using:

brew install octave

I also wanted to install gnuplot including its AquaTerm terminal via homebrew (see Soeren's comment on http://slashusr.wordpress.com/2010/01/17/gnuplot-with-aquaterm-on-osx-snow-leopard/). But the build for AquaTerm failed :( :

cd /usr/local/Library/Formula/

Uninstall Mathematica on Ubuntu Linux

Basically, you have to:

  • delete the folders /usr/local/Wolfram and /usr/share/Mathematica.
  • remove a number of links in /usr/local/bin: mathematica mcc Mathematica math MathKernel.
  • in your home directory you can remove the folder ~/.Mathematica

The following commands do that all:

sudo rm -rf /usr/local/Wolfram
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/Mathematica
cd /usr/local/bin
sudo rm mathematica mcc Mathematica math MathKernel
rm -rf...
